T wave analysis - Arrhythmic risk stratification

In electrocardiography, the T wave represents a part of the ventricular repolarization.
Differences in the electrical activity of the contiguous cells create the conditions for an increase in the regional heterogeneity of the repolarization phenomenon, a crucial factor that contributes to the onset of ventricular tachyarrhythmias.


The modern ECG signals processing is able to favor the detection of the T wave alternation, which is the electrocardiographic manifestation of the heterogeneity of the ventricular repolarization process and which is, therefore, useful in the stratification of sudden cardiac death risk.
It is possible to study the frequency of onset of sporadic alternation, its average duration, the correlation with other indicators (effort, activity, etc.), providing important information for a possible diagnosis of serious ventricular arrhythmias risk.

This test is conducted as a normal resting electrocardiogram (ECG) and it takes about 20 minutes.
Three electrodes with shielded cable positioned according to an orthogonal XYZ system are applied to the patient's chest.
It is important that the patient is as still as possible during the exam.
